In the annals of Indian modern art, Prosanto Roy’s landscapes stand apart, commanding a place of their own. Many of these are in black-and-white, rendered with a rare gentleness of brushstrokes. Roy preferred to work in a restrained palette but his application of the colours was both refreshing and brilliant. In this dreamy landscape, made with effortless ease, the artist depicts the vastness of the mountains, revealing their magnitude by placing a human figure to offer perspective.
