A leading exponent of the Bengal School style of watercolour wash paintings, Prosanto Roy was inspired by Abanindranath Tagore, who was leading the Bengal School movement. Roy’s delicate washes, seen in this Untitled painting of an ascetic-like figure, has delicate detailing in the manner of Indian miniature paintings. Roy excelled in using warm colour pigments and expanded them with cool tonalities to create a vibrant pictorial space.
