Though primarily a sculptor, Hiranmoy Roychaudhuri created impactful prints. Roychaudhuri was vital in bringing Indian ‘modernism’ to art rejecting what was taught in art schools. He celebrates in this Untitled lithograph an innate Indianness, creating a side profile of a lady with brilliant precision, paying attention to the garments, the ornaments, the features, expressions, hair tied loosely in a bun. The ease of the subject, the calm demeanour makes us wonder if she was a family member of the artist?
