Printmaking is a complex technique and when Hiranmoy Roychaudhuri started learning it, it was a relatively new field in Indian art schools. Though primarily a sculptor, Roychaudhuri brings in his prints, as evident in this Untitled lithograph, a remarkable ease and finesse that seems effortless and enhances the experience for the spectator. Though initially used for the purpose of book illustration, from which the broadsheet later developed, lithography became popular for advertisements and product labels. Much later, artists such as Roychaudhuri started representing prints for their own visual vocabulary.
