Baroda-based Rekha Rodwittiya’s paintings have always been a strong yet sensitive comment on gender politics and socio-political issues, all reflected through the rather harsh lens of questioning the self. The unjust, unfair and brutal reality of the world around gets distilled on Rodwittiya’s canvases bluntly, through sharp lines and bold colours, almost as if to drive the truth home. In this canvas, for instance, distorted beings are crammed inside a hut on a moonlit night but their dreadful visages allude to a tragedy they have endured, and are perhaps, taking shelter to preserve what remains of their life; not very dissimilar to the real world.
