Among Jeram Patel’s earliest works, this Untitled painting from the 1960s was done at a time when the artist was focussed on experimentation in various mediums, keenly observing how colour and texture responded to these mediums. It was these experiments that would encourage Patel to create works that were not articulated through colour, to investigate unconventional materials and allow the artist to view both, the positive and the negative spaces. Much later, he would char the surface through his remarkable burnt wood creations.
