Jeram Patel enriched Indian modern art with unusual works using three mediums—blowtorch on wood, black and white drawings, and paintings on board and canvas. To call his images surreal because they do not answer to reality would be a fallacy, even as they make a clean break from realism in art. What is striking is the sensuous use of colour that stands in sharp contrast with the rough texture of burnt and hollowed, blackened areas.
