Etching, viscosity, ink and pencil colour on paper
Ramanathan Palaniappan did not study to be an artist at first, drawn to science, mathematics and astronomy, which he abandoned when he joined art school in Madras. Early on, he found himself attracted to the mysteries of printmaking and its secret language which translated into cyphers, maps and notations in his drawings and prints with their considerations of time, space and movement. He wanted to bring his own fascination for avionics, space travel, the universe, to his printmaking practice, visible in this Untitled work from the Eighties.
