The scene captured in this painting by academic realist painter A. H. Müller is that of a family home in a village, complete with an aangan or a patio that houses tulsi or the holy basil that Indian families continue to worship to this day. This is a humble but comfortable home of a couple, complete with children, their cattle and a private area that houses fruit trees for the family's consumption. The hut is adorned with motifs, elephant figures and other patterns, which is typically how village homes appear.
