Biswanath Mukerji perfected the style of integrating Western modernism with Eastern notions of sublimity and mystery. Interestingly, he did so with only one medium—watercolour—all his life. Whether abstraction or figurative, as in this Untitled work, or landscape, the genres eventually found their creation in Mukerji’s hands through the medium of watercolour. Whether he painted in a monochromatic palette or in a riot of colours, didn’t matter. Ultimately, what was important for Mukerji was the visual storytelling.
