Bimal Dasgupta reached the stage of pure abstraction after starting out as a landscape artist and traversing through cubism and neo-tantrism. Constantly experimenting, he incorporated spiritualism and surrealism in his work. In this Untitled surrealist work, a form composed of several illumined layers floats in ether; wispy elements of space floating alongside ascribe to it a sense of lightness. It can be likened to an enlightened soul that has risen above all worldly fetters and is swimming in a state of pure consciousness. The artist adds depth to the work as earth-bound forms can be seen below the enlightened one.
