This Untitled work comes from a time when Bimal Dasgupta had already visited Germany on a scholarship and been exposed to European art trends such as cubism and constructivism. This work, therefore, is a departure from his pre-Europe phase watercolour landscapes; it was in Europe that he started working in gouache and oil. Here, Dasgupta divides the picture plane into two halves and places an amorphous being horizontally in both. The strokes are reminiscent of analytical cubism style though not developed into any definitive form. The beige beings in dark spaces recall packed living quarters of newly-industrialised societies.
