This landscape by Nikhil Biswas is abundantly blue in colour. The pigment appears as much on the land as it does in the sky. The 1952 painting of a valley is far more gestural with fluid brushwork and diluted transparent paint. In it, green peeks out from amidst the blue, both on the hills and in the sky. The only other discernible feature in the painting are the tiny rows of conifers used to contextualise the scale of the painting. The companion artwork is far more complex and comprises multiple tonal variations. It is also a more abstract landscape since the only feature distinctly identifiable is the horizon.
