In Dhanraj Bhagat’s sculptures, there was an emphasis on geometrical patterns and designs. Wood was Bhagat’s preferred medium and he used the limitations of the medium to an advantage—his works, though not monumental, revel in the intimacy it allows. Arriving at his work by creating a strong personal statement that was born from his own experiences, Bhagat contributed significantly to bringing a modernism in the plastic arts that rejected earlier styles. He created both, rough-hewn finish and smooth surfaces in his sculptures.
