Dhanraj Bhagat had freed his sculptures from rigid tradition, and was driven purely by sculptural values. In his hands, the sculptures rendered had a stylisation that was not restricted by any romantic notion of Indianness but rather by a visual idiom that was informed by the artist’s own expression. He worked in a variety of mediums, testing patiently how sculptures evolved when created in different mediums. In Bhagat’s view, art was the ‘the true expression of one’s feelings from the inner core of the heart’.
