The sculpturesque strength of Ramkinkar Baij, one of India’s foremost modernists, is visible in this Untitled print. Baij, while imbibing the language and the artistic practice of Santiniketan, didn’t adhere to any specific aesthetic, preferring to deeply immerse himself in his art, allowing himself to unearth the magic that it offered to him. To this effect, he dabbled in various genres, briefly pausing on different sorts of mediums and subjects. In all of them, however, he sought a personal visual vocabulary.
