Santiniketan-based Ramkinkar Baij experimented with a diverse range of stylistic impulses, his language underscoring the expressive potential of the materials he used. Known as a sculptor, he painted in robust and tactile strokes. Never one to be tied down by tradition, his work was often a conscious critique of the conventional styles of representation. The Untitled work under discussion combines the depth of the landscape genre with strong figurative elements as depicted by the two figures.
