Moti Zharotia graduated in fine arts but overcame the limited possibilities offered to artists by joining the National Institute of Open Schooling in Delhi as a graphic officer, thus freed from the encumbrances of having to worry about art and its market. First Flight is typical of Zharotia’s work. Rendered in flat colour tones, as he typically did in most of his works, we find two free floating figures—another feature of his art—in this work, of a man and a woman, the former guiding her gently through the clouds.
