Through his paintings, V. Viswanadhan has hoped to attain the ‘music of silence’, which this early work bears out beautifully. Through the shape of the triangle, which he considers forme premiere, Viswanadhan composes a lyrical painting where fluid brushstrokes glide from one angle to another, in what is an expression of a calm landscape, neither arid, nor frozen, but throbbing with life as discernible through bright colours on an earthy background. The faint patterns are an ode to the tradition of floor drawings practiced by his family in his native Kerala, a characteristic that has remained a constant in his long career built on a global stage.
