Made in the year K. K. Hebbar was honoured with the Padma Shri, this oil is a far cry from his earlier lush, verdant landscapes; it is also a mile from his works celebrating the rhythm of life inspired by music and dance. Yet, it is quintessentially Hebbaras it captures a slice of life quotidian—his primary focus throughout his career. The three could be victims of a travesty—a natural calamity, poverty induced by other reasons, or even loss of simple life that occurs when villagers migrate to city. Hebbar touches a tender cord in the way he composes the three figures in a cubist vocabulary.
