Akkitham Narayanan was one of the few Madras Art Movement artists who was trained under both D. P. Roy Chowdhury and K. C. S. Paniker but chose to paint almost entirely in the abstract. However, his paintings have an element of ‘construction’ consisting of segments and parts that appear like geometric puzzles to which he adds a lyrical symphony of lines that are seemingly scratched to soften the overall impact. The warm colours with deeper base tones recall sunburnt days in the south—an enduring source of inspiration for the artist
