J. Swaminathan represented the artist collective Group 1890 along with some of his other contemporaries, which encouraged the creation of ‘authentic’ art based on their own personal artistic journeys, without any specific belief system or ideology. It’s no wonder that Swaminathan’s work stems from such a personal insight as this Untitled work represents. He transforms the blank paper here into an aesthetic surface, showing us what bold brushstrokes, patterns and a unique colour palette can do when used with an artistic vision.
