Swaminathan’s artistic vocabulary was an organic and seamless blending of his socio-political ideas with his art, which allowed him to explore the higher ideals of human existence through an abstractionist vocabulary, as evident in this Untitled work. His works were always executed in earth colours, rooted as he was in his ideals and way of life. It was his empathy towards all life that helped him bring national and international focus on tribal art of central India, and also help set up a seminal arts complex, Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal, even as he simultaneously continued to essay his own artistic growth.
