It is to Surendran Nair’s credit that he creates impressive narratives such as About Growing Wings in the complex medium of printmaking. The scene shows a family of four huddled together. The elderly maternal figure and a middle-aged man comfort a young boy, giving an impression that they are mollycoddling him. The setup shows that the family is of modest means. While all three figures look at one another, the fourth, a young girl, holding a flute in her hands, looks in another direction as if someone is calling out to her.
