This is a very early work from the repertoire of Kerala-born Surendran Nair, who had not yet joined the College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum, for his bachelor’s in painting. Showing his precocious talent in creating fictional narratives, this work exemplifies his intent to leave many things unsaid, for the viewer to decipher, the critic to make sense of. By obliterating the eyes of the subject, Nair leaves him with an unfinished tale that he deliberately prods the viewer to complete.
