Baroda-based Surendran Nair, who studied at printmaking at M. S. University, Baroda, began his art practice with strongly realist pen and ink drawings, and etchings and lithographs, of which this Untitled work is an example. This work was made in the Nair finished his printmaking course. Coming from the hands of a young artist, it albeit shows his strong command over his line, as he uses it good effect in giving the required expression to the subject. A portrait of an acquaintance, perhaps, the artist catches her in deep thought.
