Kali has risen, demolishing demons and slaying everyone who harms her. The representation of women in K. G. Subramanyan’s art depicts this dynamic of their changing relationship with the other gender even as they navigate through a male-dominated environment. The artist, though, seems to give control to the female figures, placing in their hands, literally, weapons and tools with which they protect themselves. The bold, crosshatched lines add to the overall appeal of this monochromatic work.
