This still-life with flowers is so unlike the traditional definition of still-life yet is unique as it has been created by K. G. Subramanyan in his inimitable style, which was a fierce commitment to Indian ethos. There’s a vase with flowers in a living room in the traditional arrangement of objects in the genre but the strokes and the stylisation are the ones Subramanyan developed through his training at Kala Bhavana at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, which chiselled the drive in him to seek an Indian idiom.
