Recognised as one of the foremost silkscreen printmakers, Paramjeet Singh experimented when this medium was still in its nascent stage in India. Green Valley presents the viewer with an idyllic scene of the open world. Taking a fauvist’s approach, Singh shows a bright green valley and pale mountains in the distance set against a yellow sky. The deep greens of the field perfectly frame the tall grass and flowers that lay closest to the viewer—the hints of a meadow among which butterflies thrive.
