Though the miniature painting format is mostly known for the iconicity in portraiture and the detailing of romantic episodes provided in a small but luxurious format, the war paintings in the genre are equally compelling. Muni Singh never deviated from this format and worked at showing intricate details, particularly tackling themes related to the Indian Mutiny of 1857. Having painted statespersons, generals and warriors associated with this historical uprising, he creates here the scene of one of the wars, which broke out between the East India Company and the allies of the Mughals.
