Muni Singh delicately frames the surface and creates in flat colour tones an image of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. Done in the traditional miniature style of painting, but not completed, this painting displays the monarch’s wealth, showing him wearing his crown, displaying his sword and sporting a rich cloak in black. However, he looks old and withdrawn, the facial expression, particularly his eyes, belying any idea that he commands the empire of Hindustan.
