Along with the rich colours in the enormous vistas and landscapes, which he painted, Bireswar Sen attempted an understanding of the painting’s texture, especially when done in a small area. Sen’s work is visually musical, almost transporting the richness of a raag that, depending on the time of the day—and season—is sung to leave a lasting impression. The minutiae in Sen’s art—the riverbed, the forest beyond, the human figure, for instance, in The Enchanted Pool—are proof of his visual harmony.
