It was his abiding interest in Shiva-Shakti (or Shaivite) philosophy that prompted G. R. Santosh to read and dwell deeper into tantra. His personal expression was influenced by the many esoteric concepts of Kashmiri Shaivism, particularly its branch of tantric thought and practice. His spiritual quest to understand the bonds of male-female energy evolved over time with Santosh creating art in the neo-tantra genre. The drawings, including this one, were most probably intended to help him study the forms that would go on to become large paintings on canvas.
