By the 1970s, Piraji Sagara had begun to explore the relationship between found architectural objects and art, of which this abstract work in relief is an example. The vibrant yellow, blue and red indentations are like illuminated windows detailing a neighbourhood where homes in proximity allow households to exist through an inter-dependency common to old communities. Sagara fixes the neighbourhood in Ahmedabad through the arched device towards the bottom of the painting—a reflection of the Tree of Life screen in stone that is one of the visual markers of the city.
