Suhas Roy went to France on a scholarship with fellow artists Jogen Chowdhury and Dipak Banerjee, where he studied graphic art under S. W. Hayter and mural art at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Roy imbibed the rhythm and the possibilities in printmaking, bringing unique characteristics into his abstract constructions to reveal his mastery over the complex medium. An important member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Roy was representative of high modernism in Bengal.
