Every artist worth his or her salt has at some point or the other tried to capture the movement, rhythm, poise, and virility, of the horse. Reddy, interestingly, in the 1960s was working on various figurative works—particularly on female figures—in groups of three or more. Three Horses showcases not only the control of his lines and brushwork but also reveals his delight in the sheer joy of discovering ways of making the figures dance to the rhythmic strokes of his palette, but marks a departure from his human-centric works from that period.
