Very often, A. A. Raiba worked with economically viable materials due to financial constraints. Jute was one of his favourites and he would often create his paintings on it, satisfied with the resilience of the material to withstand harsh temperatures or extreme humidity. Many of his landscapes on jute have a rich ochre colour palette with thick outlines as is evident in Baga Beach. Influenced by Walter Langhammer, Raiba brings to his landscapes a quality of warmth and studies the vistas with a keen eye. It is interesting to note this famous beach of Goa as a picture of tranquility in this work, a far cry from its current status.
