Like other artists of his era, A. A. Raiba was drawn to the figure and struggles of Christ, seeing in them the debasement of a larger humanity. His Christ here with his raised arms seems to emulate the cross from which he appears suspended. The forceful strokes, the crown of thorns he wears on his head and his stretched abdomen revealing his ribcage, characterise a Christ whose noble face speaks of his pain even as a cityscape that forms the horizon breaks the drawing into two parts.
