A. A. Raiba’s art looks at unconventional themes and immediately draws the attention of the spectator. In this work, done in the Sixties—a time when Raiba’s art was a personal engagement, far from the constraints of art movements—we see an unusual spectacle: a bird perched on a boy’s head even as the latter’s blank eyes stare into the unknown. Is the boy helpless? Will the bird take flight? Who is more powerful of the two? These are questions to reflect on while viewing this work.
