Beasts, birds and other wild animals have often figured in Nagji Patel’s sculptures, carved to perfection mostly from a single stone, a technique that he learnt from his guru Sankho Chaudhuri in Baroda and mastered it in his illustrious career. Patel’s sculptural technique was in keeping with the integrity of the stone, revealing its ruggedness while showing its polished lustre in other areas. This Untitled stone sculpture reveals all of these key elements, and gives us a glimpse into the richness of Patel’s artistic oeuvre.
