Nagji Patel was a student of Sankho Chaudhuri, the latter credited with bringing significant innovations in sculpture in Indian modern art. It was through him that Patel found a fascination towards direct stone carving, which seems to be the method followed in this Untitled sculpture. Though the sculpture is from the later years of his career, it shows the continuing investment of Patel in working in stone as his preferred medium. Patel achieves a smoothness in stone to reveal a high level of sensuousness.
