Devayani Krishna painted this work after Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s death in 1964. Like in similar works from the 1960s, the intersecting lines describe movement. The ember streaks emanating from the painting’s blue and grey centre give the impression of residual heat, perhaps in reference to a funeral pyre, or an abstract metaphor for turbulent thoughts in the artist’s head.
