Latika Katt has often turned conventional materials into hitherto untraversed directions with her sculptures. This papier-mâché work, Fields, for instance, is part of her explorations of the medium in refreshing ways. It gives a bird’s-eye view of a field, quite like what one sees from above when flying low just after take-off from a city, the adobe walls of kutcha houses enveloping stories different from the reality of the flyer above. A thatched house forms the fulcrum of the farmstead here, which is lined by rows of trees along its length and a grove of trees in one corner.
