Indra Dugar’s landscapes belied the fact that he was a self-trained artist. His deft handling of the difficult medium of watercolour and the rendition of works in the delicate wash technique, such as this one, lent them an elegant airiness. In this small work, Dugar creates a broad sweep of the desert with camels and travellers discernible in the distance; the size of the latter impresses upon us the scale of the sand dunes itself. What is striking are the soft, uniform ripples that Dugar succeeds in creating on the dunes across the work.
