Enamel, pastel, graphite and burn marks on paper pasted on paper
Serendipity has been behind many great inventions and discoveries, and that is true of the art world too. Himmat Shah, too, like his contemporaries Jeram Patel and Satish Gujral, discovered newer artistic possibilities in an accidental experiment to see the effects of fire on paper. The result, when intuitively combined with colours, gave birth to some abstract works worth ruminating, as this Untitled work. Here, the fragile, burnt paper assumes a unique character when teased with marks in graphite and encased in bold colours of red, green and yellow.
