Himmat Shah used to render sculptures that were inspired from discarded bottles, which, according to him, had great sculptural possibilities. He would make a mould and use the technique of slip casting since they were too fragile to shape on a potter’s wheel. The process became a journey of revelation as a simple glass bottle, when cast in terracotta, acquired a new dimension, becoming a work of art. The Untitled terracotta here, resembling a surahi (an earthen water pitcher), recalls an object that one os likely to find at an excavation site.
