For someone who dabbled in various art forms, techniques and styles, Asit Kumar Haldar emerged as an artist of repute, gaining influence from the Ajanta caves’ frescoes, Indian mythology and much else. He was also a sculptor and seen here is a work in terracotta that is an ode to one of his mentors from the Tagore family, and the most famous of them all, the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. There is an innate precision and detail that the artist brings in this work, whether seen in the deeply intense eyes or the flowing beard that Haldar creates through his draftsmanship.
