Trained at Sir J. J. School of Art, widely exhibited and as widely commended, S. L. Haldankar was an excellent portraitist, known also for the art school he set up, Haldankar’s Fine Art Institute, Bombay, in 1908. Actively involved in propagating fine arts in India, and known for his remarkable handling of the paintbrush, Haldankar was commissioned to paint portraits of several eminent personalities back in the day. This Untitled portrait shows the intensity of expression and the finesse that Haldankar achieved in his portraits.
