Prodosh Das Gupta
21.0 x 14.0 x 13.5 in. / 53.3 x 35.6 x 34.3 cm.
A student of D. P. Roy Chowdhury in Madras, Prodosh Das Gupta’s sculptures broke the conventional language of the genre emerging heavier and more rounded and somewhat monumental in scope. He believed sculpture to be independent of architecture—thus differing from Indian classicism—viewing it as a massive and solid object, brimming with energy and a vitality, which is seen evidently in the Nest. Das Gupta’s sculptures achieve a fine balance and a rhythm and seem to have an unparalleled force.
