The only sculptor among the founding members of the Calcutta Group, Prodosh Das Gupta’s choice of medium was bronze to which he brought the malleability but also solidness of clay. Queen Relaxing is a fascinating work of art that continues with the artist’s quest to give an energy and momentum to the subjects that he sculpts with passion. There is no geometrical approximation or proportion but the figure in this sculpture still gives a sense of a mysterious quality that’s immediately gripping.
